The newly completed 12.7-kilometer northern bypass of Route 47, funded with support from the European Union, is a major infrastructure project that helps divert daily through-traffic away from the inner areas of H\u00f3dmez\u0151v\u00e1s\u00e1rhely. By easing congestion in the city center, the bypass greatly improves both traffic flow and quality of life for local residents.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The road was constructed as a two-lane route (one lane in each direction) and includes five street-level intersections, two of which are roundabouts. The project also features one grade-separated junction, a railway overpass, and an underpass for cyclists. At the southern end of the bypass near Szeged, a 60-meter-diameter circular bridge allows road and rail traffic to cross without interruption.<\/p>\n

As part of the development, a 1.7-kilometer section of the local bicycle path was realigned, and 6.6 kilometers of rural access roads were either newly built or upgraded. These improvements enhance access to surrounding agricultural areas and support local economic activity.<\/p>\n

The bypass now carries an estimated 10,000 to 15,000 vehicles per day around the city, significantly reducing traffic in the downtown area and improving road safety throughout H\u00f3dmez\u0151v\u00e1s\u00e1rhely. It also plays an important role in improving connectivity within the region, providing a smoother and more direct link between B\u00e9k\u00e9scsaba and Szeged. With the exception of the sections passing through Sz\u00e9kkutas and Csorv\u00e1s, this stretch now offers a seamless driving experience across most of the corridor.<\/p>\n

The development was implemented from EU funding in the project IKOP-4.1.0-15-2016-00002 under the Integrated Transport Development Operational Programme.<\/p>\n
