Budapest St. Francis Hospital has expanded its medical team with support from the European Union under the Competitive Central Hungary Operational Programme. This investment strengthens the hospital\u2019s ability to provide uninterrupted, high-quality care and ensures that patients can access services when they need them.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Like many healthcare providers, the hospital faces sector-wide challenges: early career departures, an aging workforce, and the migration of skilled professionals abroad. These factors make it harder to secure enough qualified staff in certain specialties. That\u2019s why this program is so important \u2014 it represents a major step in building a stronger, more resilient healthcare team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Founded in 1936 by the Sisters of the Congregation of the Daughters of St. Francis of Assisi, the hospital was nationalized in 1950 and returned to the Congregation\u2019s ownership in 1994, with operating rights restored in 1996. Today, it remains under the Sisters\u2019 stewardship. The hospital provides cardiac rehabilitation for the entire Central Hungary region, along with day hospital services for specific patient groups. Beyond inpatient care, it offers community screening events, lifestyle programs, home care training, and \u201ccardio tours\u201d to help detect cardiovascular disease early. Through the project, nine new healthcare professionals have joined the hospital, one cardiac rehabilitation specialist has taken on a new role, and sixteen more staff members are working in newly formed mobile teams that can respond flexibly to patient needs.<\/p>\n

These changes benefit not only patients, but also the entire hospital staff. With more team members on board, overtime has been reduced, work schedules are more balanced, and patient care is safer and more predictable. As the hospital also serves patients from across Hungary, the impact of the project reaches far beyond the local community.<\/p>\n

Thanks to this initiative, the number of unfilled positions has fallen, regional disparities in access to care have narrowed, and the hospital\u2019s professional capacity has grown. This ensures that Budapest St. Francis Hospital can continue to meet patients\u2019 needs with reliable, high-quality care for years to come.<\/p>\n

The development was implemented from EU funding in the project VEKOP-7.2.4-17-2017-00029 under the Competitive Central Hungary Operational Program.<\/p>\n
