Agriculture has played a central role in the Southern Great Plain region for centuries, and Sz\u00e9kkutas is no exception. A significant share of the town\u2019s population depends on farming for their livelihood, making the local market a key part of community life. With this in mind, the municipality used European Union funding to modernize the local market infrastructure, giving the service area a complete overhaul.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The former marketplace could no longer fully meet the needs of either local producers or visitors. There were too few stalls, and trading was limited to outdoor spaces only. This posed serious challenges during the colder months, as frost-sensitive products such as honey and cheese could not be sold without indoor facilities. The absence of restroom facilities further reduced comfort for both vendors and customers.<\/p>\n

The new market facility offers at least 12 vendor stalls, with the option to expand capacity depending on demand and product types. Its design supports both indoor and outdoor sales.<\/p>\n

The interior space is flexible and can be divided into two or three separate retail units if needed. A restroom was also included as part of the investment, significantly improving the market\u2019s usability and comfort.<\/p>\n

The upgraded infrastructure serves not only local farmers but also the municipality\u2019s public employment program. Seasonal products grown on municipally owned land as part of this program can be sold here. The range of goods is diverse, including paprika, onions, garlic, and potatoes, as well as lavender and lemon balm sachets, all offered in line with the season.<\/p>\n

The renewed market has strengthened both the local economy and community life, encouraging residents to shop locally and supporting the long-term development of Sz\u00e9kkutas and its producers.<\/p>\n

The development was implemented from EU funding in the project TOP-1.1.3-15-CS1-2016-00020 under the Territorial and Settlement Development Operational Programme.<\/p>\n
