An important missing link in the cycling network around Szombathely has been completed: with EU funding, the V\u00e9p section of the V\u00e9p\u2013Szombathely cycle path has been built. The development makes everyday cycling safer for commuters traveling between settlements in the area.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The route between V\u00e9p and Szombathely is one of the most important transport corridors in the county seat\u2019s metropolitan area. Until now, continuous cycling infrastructure was missing along Road No. 8443. As part of the project, a two-way cycle path has been constructed within the administrative area of V\u00e9p. The investment complements earlier developments by the City of Szombathely and the Vas County Municipality. With the full route now complete, bicycle traffic is separated from motor vehicles along the entire stretch between V\u00e9p and Szombathely, significantly reducing accident risks and making travel more predictable for all road users.<\/p>\n

The new cycle path supports not only commuting but also everyday activities: cyclists can now reach public institutions, schools, healthcare services, shops, and other services more easily and safely.<\/p>\n

The project also included a campaign to promote cycling. A cycling day was organized for residents, while primary school students took part in theoretical and practical training to learn the basics of safe cycling. The new section was officially opened with a community \u201cride-through\u201d event.<\/p>\n

By supporting more livable and sustainable transport in the region, the V\u00e9p\u2013Szombathely cycle path encourages cycling, improves quality of life for local residents, and offers a real alternative to car travel between the two towns.<\/p>\n

The development was implemented from EU funding in the project TOP-3.1.1-15-VS2-2019-00001 under the Territorial and Settlement Development Operational Programme.<\/p>\n
