In the village of Döröske, located in Vas County, the rehabilitation of the local reservoir, the restoration of the lake shore and bed conditions, as well as the suppression of invasive alien species, has been carried out with the support of The Hungarian Fisheries Operational Programme (MAHOP).
With the involvement of EU funding, the project implemented by the Hungarian National Fishing Association completely renovated the reservoir and its facilities for water retention, which were in very poor condition before the grant was awarded. The maintenance of safe water levels was not ensured either, and the infiltration of water into the reinforced concrete structure caused serious corrosion.
The MAHOP project has successfully concluded the technical modernisation of the facilities, ensuring a stable water level in the process. They have also obtained the lake’s water rights operation permit for long-term legal use. In order to preserve biodiversity, a thinning of non-native species took place at Lake Döröske, achieved through periodic selective fishing, resulting in the professional removal of more than 3,413 kg of mixed-age, non-native silver carp. The designation of water areas for fish management has also been implemented so that the populations of fish species living there can regenerate. In 2023, a total of 468 kg of carp weighing between 4-5 kg arrived to facilitate the natural reproduction of fish stock, followed by the addition of 500 kg of selected bream to enrich the reservoir. This year, the stocking of native fish continued with 2000 kg of three-year-old carp, in accordance with the current fish management plan.
The investment will facilitate the rehabilitation of the lake, renewing the shorelines’ welfare infrastructure, providing fishing opportunities, and potentially contributing to the development of local tourism as well.
The development was implemented from EU funding in the project MAHOP-1.2.1-2017-2019-00013 under the Hungarian Fisheries Operational Programme.
