A Home for Books and Community Life

Located in Bokros, nearly ten kilometres from the centre of Csongrád, the local community centre and library serve as a shared “living room” for residents. With support from the European Union, the ageing building was fully renovated, creating a modern and welcoming space for community life once again.

The institution plays an important role in everyday life in Bokros, providing a venue for cultural programmes, events and local initiatives. The library offers a place to read, learn and access information, while the community centre hosts meetings, activities, celebrations and other community events.

Over the years, the building had deteriorated considerably, while technical problems meant that some areas could only be used to a limited extent. The renovation therefore covered the entire facility, with the aim of creating a safer, more comfortable and more energy-efficient community space for the long term.

As part of the development, the roof was renovated, the walls were waterproofed and treated against damp, and the façade received modern thermal insulation. The external and internal doors and windows were replaced, the electrical system was upgraded, and the heating system was modernised. The floors were also waterproofed and insulated, and new flooring was installed, further improving both comfort and energy efficiency.

Accessibility was another key priority of the project. A gently sloping accessible walkway, an adapted toilet, tactile guidance strips and information signs now help ensure that the building and its services can be accessed independently and safely by as many people as possible.

Following the renovation, the community centre and library once again provide a welcoming and well-equipped setting for local programmes, shared celebrations and everyday encounters, offering residents a place to meet, learn and spend time together.

The development was implemented from EU funding in the project TOP-7.1.1-16-H-ERFA-2018-00003 under the Territorial and Settlement Development Operational Programme.
