Digital renewal in the administration of the Hortobágy National Park

2023. 07. 14.

The directorate of the Hortobágy National Park has introduced digital administrative services in order to simplify administration and make it understandable to the public. The objective of this project, implemented with European Union funding, was to reduce administrative burdens and make customer-friendly services available.

Thanks to the new system, three e-forms have been developed that make it possible for administrators to identify customers and automatically process documents. This digital renewal has improved customer experience, increased data purity and helped legal compliance. The e-administration criteria system can also be utilised in the activities of nature conservation and agricultural organisations operating in the area of the Hortobágy National Park Directorate.

According to Sándor Petőfi, this glorious plain is ”God’s forehead”, while in the eyes of Mihály Fazekas, this is ”blessed Canaan”. No wonder that Hortobágy, the most beautiful microregion of our homeland, stretching between the Hajdúság region and the River Tisza has inspired several Hungarian poets and writers: one’s jaw drops at the seemingly endless plains. The largest grasslands in Central Europe. The first national park of Hungary was established in this microregion of the Great Plain in 1973, on just 51 hectares and in 1999 it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage Committee list. The territory by now has reached 82 thousand hectares, thus becoming the largest cohesive protected area in the country. It is comprised of saline grass and pastures, loess plains, flood plain forests and groves, furthermore a ”land of water” consisting of marshes, ponds and backwaters, where 342 bird species can be observed and the local flora is also rich with myriad colours.
