European Union support for the development of the 83 motorway

2023. 09. 26.

The implementation of Hungarian track, road, cycle route and port investments was supported by the Integrated Transport Development Operational Programme (ITDP), in the framework of which many successful projects were completed during the 2014-2020 programming period. The project aims to improve the section of the motorway 83 between the M1 and Pápa; the construction of the main road between Győr – TEN-T junction – and Pápa, including the access road to the Pápa airport; and the development of the Győr access road section as a trunk road. The investment improves regional accessibility and reduce traffic in settlements.

The project developed Motorway 83 in two phases. In the first phase, the the Győr access section of the main road was rebuilt, the former main road was widened to 2×2 lanes and three turbo roundabouts were built, two of which are located at the M1 motorway junction. The technical handover and opening to traffic took place in 2018.

The second phase includes the 2×2 lane construction of the main road 83 on the more than 36 km long section between Pápa and Győr on the M1 motorway, and the construction of the access road from the main road No 83 to the airport of Pápa.

The aim of the project is to improve regional accessibility while avoiding urban areas. The development of road 83 represents a major improvement in transport infrastructure and contributes significantly to the economic and tourism development of the region. The development, which was supported by EU funding, modernised the transport infrastructure, providing more comfortable and safer travel for road users.

The project was implemented in the framework of IKOP-4.1.0-15-2016-00003, with the support of EU funding.
