A greener, more livable Sellye

2026. 04. 13.

Sometimes a development project means far more than a simple investment. It is not just about paving stones, sidewalks, or new streetlights, but about a community’s future, confidence, and sense of hope. That is exactly what happened in Sellye: the project titled Creating a More Livable, Beautiful and Greener Town in the Heart of Ormánság reshaped the townscape while also making everyday life more welcoming, safer, and more enjoyable for local residents.

Implemented with EU support, the project improved several important parts of the town, but perhaps the most visible transformation took place in Korongi Square. Green areas were renewed, new walkways and sidewalks were built, and modern public lighting was installed. A leisure park and community spaces were created, while children gained a new playground, adults outdoor fitness equipment, and the plants a modern irrigation system. As part of the development, cycling infrastructure, street furniture, bicycle racks, and a CCTV system were also added, making the town’s central area not only more attractive, but also more practical and secure.

The project connected the key places of everyday life in Sellye, creating a kind of secondary central axis and revitalizing the middle part of the town. As a result, public institutions and services—including the school, sports hall, Town Hall, market, bus stop, health centre, and other municipal facilities—have become easier to reach and more pleasant to access.

One of the project’s particular strengths is the prominent role given to nature within this community-focused vision. Tree care, new planting, grassed areas, and well-maintained public spaces have not only improved the town’s appearance, but also demonstrate that Sellye has created a healthier, more livable, and more attractive urban environment for its residents.
