A new day centre for older people in Mezőtúr

2026. 04. 01.

Thanks to an EU-funded development, a new place has been created in Mezőtúr where older people can spend their days in comfort, stay active, and enjoy being part of a community.

In recent years, demand for daytime care for older people has grown steadily in the town. Existing institutions were operating at full capacity, while the condition and layout of the buildings were becoming less and less suited to modern needs. This was especially clear at the site on Áchim András Street, where it became evident that maintaining the existing infrastructure was not a viable long-term solution.

In response, the local government decided to create an entirely new facility. The investment was carried out on Fóti Street, on a previously unused site, where a modern building designed to meet today’s needs has now been completed.

When planning the new day centre, the main priorities were usability and efficient use of space. The nearly 300-square-metre building includes community areas, relaxation rooms, and a covered terrace, providing a comfortable setting for everyday activities and shared programmes. The entire facility is fully accessible, which is especially important for older people with reduced mobility or special care needs.

By bringing services together in one place, care has become more transparent and better organised. The new building also makes it possible to offer a wider range of activities and community programmes that support both physical and mental well-being.

Daily meals are provided through an on-site serving kitchen, where individual health and dietary needs can also be taken into account. As part of the development, the centre also received new equipment and furniture, as well as a nine-seater minibus. This makes it easier for older people to get to the facility, helps with everyday administration, and also creates opportunities for smaller community events and outings.

Energy efficiency was another important consideration in the design of the building. Modern mechanical systems and a solar panel installation help ensure economical operation, making the institution sustainable in the long term.
