Bicycle path development in the Csinger Valley

2025. 05. 09.

A new bicycle path has been completed in Ajka, providing both locals and tourists with a more convenient and safer way to travel. The construction of the Csinger Valley bicycle path marks a significant step forward for the city and its surroundings, both in terms of tourism and transportation.

Cycling has been growing in popularity in Ajka, making it increasingly urgent for the city to improve its biking infrastructure. The project, realized with a budget of HUF 400 million, aimed to promote active recreation and boost regional tourism, making the city and its surroundings more attractive. As part of the development, a 1.5 km-long new bicycle path was built, along with the renovation of a 1 km-long section. One of the key advantages of this project is the significant reduction of road traffic hazards, as cyclists can now travel on a dedicated path. These designated routes provide greater safety for all road users, encouraging entire families, seniors, and younger riders to cycle more confidently.

The new bicycle path connects Ajka to Kab Hill, making it more accessible to nature enthusiasts and sports lovers. Additionally, the city’s cultural and historical attractions—including the world’s first krypton gas factory and the Mining Museum (not far from the famous Csinger Valley reading cabin)—can now be reached more easily by bike.

The municipality of Ajka contributed HUF 40 million to the project from its own resources, while the remaining HUF 360 million was funded by the European Union. The investment aligns with EU development strategies that promote sustainable tourism and community transportation. As part of the project, two rest areas were created, and five bus stops were renovated, further improving the transportation infrastructure.

However, the Csinger Valley bicycle path is only a part of Ajka’s long-term cycling development strategy. The city aims to build more bicycle paths and promote this healthy and sustainable mode of transport even further.
