Family-friendly upgrades transform Sopron

2025. 10. 10.

Sopron has given a fresh look to eight community green spaces as part of a major project funded by the EU and national sources. Residents of all ages can now enjoy new parks, playgrounds, and sports and leisure areas designed for relaxation, active fun, and shared community experiences.

On one of the city’s most scenic spots, Koronázódomb, an 8,500-square-meter park now features a lookout point and a skill-based playground for young children. A five-station fitness trail is perfect for kids aged 3–7, offering hours of fun. Modern climbing frames, seesaws, swings, small slides, and balance games are now safer than ever thanks to rubber safety surfaces. Benches, new parking spaces, and bike racks make the park convenient and welcoming, while newly planted trees and shrubs preserve its natural charm.

The new educational trail on Bécsi-domb combines learning and play. Colorful street furniture and gravel paths create a friendly environment, while a seven-station interactive trail introduces visitors to local trees, plants, insects, reptiles, butterflies, and birds. The trail ends with skill-building and playful elements, making the experience even more exciting.

Local youth have long wanted a safe space for skateboarding, BMX, or scootering. The new Skate Park next to Sopron Plaza features a 14×36-meter asphalt track where they can practice freely. With ramps, fencing, and seating, the park has become a full-fledged community sports hub.

Four existing playgrounds have also been upgraded, each offering unique features. On IV. László király Street, children can explore a play ship and a multi-level climbing frame. Arany János Street now features a squirrel wheel and spring flower ride. Erzsébet Park includes a climbing tower, mountaineering equipment, seesaw, and sandbox—all in a safe, rubber-surfaced environment. Barátság Park adds a new seesaw, squirrel wheel, and modern benches.

The Lövér körút bandstand, which had fallen into disrepair, has also been restored. Wooden surfaces, decking, and steel structures were repaired and repainted, while stone and concrete elements were renewed. The renovations not only improve its appearance but also make it more durable, turning it back into a welcoming venue for cultural events and community gatherings.

These green upgrades have made Sopron even more inviting and livable. By combining nature with community spaces, they enrich everyday life and strengthen the city’s social life and long-term appeal.
