High School students in Szécsény can learn in a school equipped with modern specialized classrooms and a new gymnasium

2025. 03. 12.

The Diocesan Catholic Schools Authority, which oversees the educational institutions of the Diocese of Vác, has completed the development of Páter Bárkányi János Catholic Kindergarten, Primary School, and High School in the downtown area of Szécsény. The project was made possible by non-refundable EU funding, enabling a large-scale infrastructure development of the educational institution.

Due to space constraints at the previous site, expansion was not feasible. Therefore, a former, unused school building was renovated and expanded at a new location. In response to the increasing number of students, the newly developed educational facility now includes: Four classrooms for high school students, a specialized IT classroom, a language lab, a reception area, changing rooms and service facilities for technical staff, a gymnasium with a 25m x 45m sports hall and related facilities.

To support daily physical education, the infrastructure and necessary equipment were provided. Additionally, a specialized classroom was created for natural sciences, social sciences, and arts education, while group study rooms facilitate smaller, focused learning sessions. The working conditions for teachers have also improved with the establishment of a new faculty lounge.

Alongside the renovation of the existing 630 m² building, a new educational wing of over 600 m² was constructed. The new gymnasium and its facilities—serving the entire institution—span nearly 1,500 m². Of course, the building was made accessible for individuals with disabilities, and to reduce operational costs, solar panels were installed on the new building.

The modern and efficient learning environment contributes to ensuring high-quality education, providing equal access to learning opportunities, and fostering active lifestyle skills related to health-conscious living. In a broader sense, the investment enhances social cohesion within the diocese and strengthens the town’s ability to retain its population.
