Leisure time well spent on the Margit Island in Jászberény

2025. 03. 17.

In Jászberény, the Margit Island is a true green oasis in the heart of the city, a beloved spot for locals seeking relaxation. It’s no wonder people love it—lush trees, shade, tranquility, and now, a range of new developments made possible with European Union funding are waiting for visitors.

Although a sports park had been in use on Margit Island for years and was frequently enjoyed by residents, other areas of the island lacked recreational and community facilities. As part of the project, this cherished central space in Jászberény has been expanded with four new community functions. Much to the delight of children, two new play structures have been installed, which they quickly took over. In addition, an interactive smart play device was also introduced, offering kids an exciting, modern experience. The fitness park has also been upgraded with three dynamic new elements, making it even more appealing to those who enjoy outdoor exercise. For fitness enthusiasts, this little island is now a real treasure.

The most practical addition is undoubtedly the new pedestrian bridge, which connects Margit Island with the Open-Air Stage, linking this green oasis with a vibrant cultural space. A new walking path has also been created, ensuring easy access around the island and to the bridge. Additionally, the Riszner Promenade has been completely resurfaced—a major improvement, as it serves as the main route leading to the island, the stage, and Captain Garden.

This development was driven by a strong commitment to enhancing community life by creating a true gathering place for the city’s residents. The numbers speak for themselves: while the original plan included 600 m² of improvements, the final result expanded to 2,440 m². Since its completion, the area has become one of Jászberény’s most popular green spaces, attracting a large number of visitors. Now, people of all ages can find their own favorite spot on Margit Island—whether they are families, fitness enthusiasts, or simply those looking to enjoy a peaceful afternoon stroll.
