Lifelong learning in the library in Mohács

2025. 01. 29.

The Municipality of Mohács City has implemented the development of the learning infrastructure of the Dorottya Kanizsai Museum, Youth Centre and Library, and the Jenő Kanizsai Municipal Library. The main objective of the project was to reduce social disadvantages resulting from territorial disparities and to make conditions for lifelong learning available.

The library is located in the historical centre of Mohács, on Eötvös street. The critical condition of the façade, the need to replace the windows and the deterioration of the building’s social spaces made the renovation urgent. The learning spaces were inaccessible to people with reduced mobility and the IT equipment was outdated. No wonder, then, that the project, funded from EU and national budgets, included not only the accessibility of the existing building, but also its modernisation, the purchase of equipment and the upgrading of the infrastructure to support information and communication technology (ICT). The existing learning, creative and teaching spaces of the building and the service spaces necessary for the learning process were renewed.

In the city of Mohács and the surrounding region, only the Jenő Mohács Municipal Library had a facility where the conditions for lifelong learning for all ages could be ensured by improving the existing infrastructure and introducing new services and events. Thus, in addition to the basic library services, the development included the provision of infrastructure to support ten library activities that provide lifelong learning for the population of the city and the region, from newborns to older generations. Special attention has been given to the acquisition of learning software, IT and accessibility tools for people with disabilities, and a sound lift has been installed, making all learning spaces in the library accessible and barrier-free.

Through the implementation of the project, the Municipality of Mohács has contributed to the strengthening and renewal of the educational and training role of the library, increasing the ICT background of the services and the number of service spaces, and at the same time to the increase of the number of the target group reached, and thus to the achievement of the objectives of the Lifelong Learning Framework Strategy.
