Thanks to EU support, major improvements have been made to Budapest’s suburban rail lines. As a result, 19 modern, high-capacity motor trains are now running on these tracks.
With the help of European Union funding, major improvements have been made to suburban rail lines, with the latest technology and amenities on board the motorised trains. They have a maximum speed of 160 km/h, a passenger counting system, a low floor, and are also suitable for carrying bicycles.
The Stadler double-decker trains offer a high standard of modern service, modern passenger information systems, spacious passenger compartments, WIFI, network outlets for charging mobile phones and laptops, and a state-of-the-art camera system. Passenger comfort is further enhanced by exceptionally quiet running, spacious and bright interiors and an advanced air conditioning system. The railway company has put the KISS trains into service on the busy Budapest-Vác-Szob and Budapest-Cegléd-Szolnok suburban lines between 2019 and 2022.
As a result of the EU support, Budapest’s suburban rail network has become more efficient and comfortable, contributing to sustainable community transport.
The project was implemented in the framework of IKOP-2.1.0-15-2018-00051, with the support of EU funding, under the Integrated Transport Development Operational Programme.
