Back in mid-September, we shared updates on several projects supported by the Territorial and Settlement Development Operational Programme Plus. By October, new Pillar developments have come into focus — and not just any projects, but ones that make a significant contribution to achieving the programme’s strategic objectives.
At the Nyíregyháza School District Centre, renovation works worth of HUF 2.5 billion are set to begin, modernising educational institutions across 19 municipalities — including schools in Balkány, Bököny, Tiszadob, Tiszadada, and Újfehértó, among others. The projects will provide schools with interactive tools, new student desks and chairs, and sports equipment. A press conference was also held on the topic, covered by Nyíregyháza Television. These developments are part of the Public Education Infrastructure Development Pillar. Also included in this pillar is the renovation of the gymnasium at the Mikszáth Kálmán Secondary School and Dormitory in Pásztó, scheduled for completion in February 2028, supported by HUF 178 million in funding. Similarly, the renovation of the Hársvirág Nursery in Szolnok is also being implemented within this Pillar. The HUF 1.2 billion project involves the complete demolition of the outdated building complex and the construction of a new, energy-efficient facility with six group rooms.
Under the County Employment and Economic Development Cooperation Pillar, the Somogy County Municipality has committed to helping 500 local residents over the age of 30, who have been unemployed for at least six months, reintegrate into the labour market. On October 1, 2025, participants of the HUF 3.5 billion project held a workshop to share their experiences and assess the progress made so far.
As part of the Sustainable Urban Development Pillar, the cycling network in Békéscsaba is taking a major step forward. The HUF 1.8 billion project includes the construction of new sections and the modernisation of existing critical routes, with completion planned for the end of 2027. The town of Kétegyháza is also preparing for development — its marketplace will be modernised with nearly HUF 60 million, creating a new community space for shoppers. The contractor selection process is already under way, with construction expected to begin next spring.
The sports hall in Borota has been completely renovated under the Energy-Efficient Renovation of Municipal Public Buildings Pillar. Thanks to the HUF 187.5 million investment, the Bács-Kiskun County facility will reduce its emissions to one-tenth of the previous level. The project included replacing all external windows and doors, upgrading the heating system, installing a heat pump and solar panels, and adding new insulated cladding to the façade.
Also within this programme, two municipal buildings in Csengőd — the Mayor’s Office and the Community Centre — underwent energy-efficient upgrades worth nearly HUF 164 million. In Rigyác (Zala County), a complete renovation of a municipal building was completed with HUF 58.7 million, enhancing the town’s energy efficiency and sustainability.
Likewise, the municipal building in Dunakiliti (Győr-Moson-Sopron County) is being modernised under the same Pillar. The HUF 47.6 million investment covers external insulation, window and door replacement, heating system improvements, restroom upgrades, and the installation of an accessible bathroom.
Across Hungary, the ongoing TSDOP Plus developments clearly demonstrate how the continuous inflow and effective use of EU funds not only renew buildings but also strengthen and revitalise local communities.
