Solar energy supports healing work at the Korányi Institute

2026. 06. 03.

Modern healthcare often relies on improvements that patients may not directly notice, yet they play an important role in day-to-day care. One such project has been completed at the National Korányi Institute of Pulmonology, where a new solar panel system now supports the institution’s operations.

Hospitals have significant energy needs. Lighting, IT systems, medical equipment, service areas and many other activities linked to daily patient care all require a continuous electricity supply. That is why modern, cost-effective and environmentally friendly solutions are especially valuable for healthcare institutions.

As part of an EU-funded development, a photovoltaic system was installed at the Korányi Institute. The electricity generated from sunlight can be used by the hospital for its own operations, helping to make day-to-day running more economical. This is particularly important for a large healthcare institution, where the energy demand of patient care systems, equipment and support areas is substantial.

The investment also represents progress from an environmental perspective. The use of renewable energy reduces dependence on conventional energy sources and helps lower the environmental impact of the institution’s operations. In practical terms, the development supports more efficient operation, while in the longer term it contributes to greater sustainability.

Although the solar panel system installed at the Korányi Institute is not part of the visible side of patient care, it strengthens an important background condition by making the institution’s energy supply more modern and cost-efficient.

The development was implemented from EU funding in the project KEHOP-5.2.11-16-2016-00008 under the Environmental and Energy Efficiency Operational Programme.
