Nagykékes, located in the outskirts of the large village of Harta in Bács-Kiskun County, is connected to Harta by an access road. Harta is approximately an eight-minute drive from Nagykékes, which has a population of around 60 people. The quality of the access road, which is also used by intercity buses, left much to be desired. To address the comfort and safety issues, the road was renovated with the help of European Union funding.
The Harta-Nagykékes access road received a completely new surface over a length of more than 1.3 kilometers. During the road renewal, several new layers were added to the existing concrete surface. First, a 5-centimeter thick layer of crushed stone was laid to help distribute stress, followed by a 5-centimeter thick asphalt binder layer. Finally, a 4-centimeter thick asphalt wearing course was applied on top, designed to withstand the extra load caused by the bus traffic.
Not only was the surface of the access road renewed, but the surrounding area was also carefully improved: driveways and road junctions were adjusted to the new road level, making it both more aesthetically pleasing and more convenient to use. Additionally, the roadside ditches and shoulders were also cleaned up, and older water pipes were replaced. As a result, the area around the road is now fully prepared for the next several decades.
The development was implemented from EU funding in the project TOP-1.3.1-15-BK1-2016-00001 under the Territorial and Settlement Development Operational Programme.
