There comes a point when expertise alone is not enough. At Mould Tech Kft. in Zalaegerszeg, our engineers had the knowledge and experience to design and manufacture some of the most complex tooling solutions for the automotive industry. Yet for a long time, one challenge remained: not a lack of know-how, but a lack of the right machine capacity.
For years, we have worked with leading international industrial companies such as Continental, Valeo, Hella and GE, delivering precision components and tooling solutions. With advanced five-axis milling technology, we were already able to produce highly complex geometries, including moulds for optical components.
However, one limitation repeatedly stood in the way: the five-ton weight threshold. It often determined whether a project could move forward or had to be declined. In several cases, valuable orders had to be turned away simply because we did not yet have the machining capacity required for heavier workpieces.
That changed with a major investment supported by EU funding. As part of this development, we introduced a universal turn-mill machining centre into our production process. The new machine is faster, more precise and, most importantly, expands our capacity into a completely new category with its eight-ton load capability.
This step has opened the door to projects that were previously out of reach. The requirements of companies such as Magna Steyr, ZKW and GE Lighting Tungsram are no longer limitations, but new business opportunities.
The machine’s automatic pallet-changing system has also significantly reduced downtime, making production more efficient and flexible. Precision has improved even further, which is essential in both automotive and electronics manufacturing.
The benefits of this development extend well beyond our existing markets. With this new technology, Mould Tech is now able to manufacture large multi-cavity tools for the electronics industry, as well as components for the oil industry, including large valves and pipe connections.
At the same time, the new equipment is equally suited for smaller production runs and prototype manufacturing. This is especially important in research and development projects, where speed, flexibility and fast response times can provide a clear competitive edge.
This investment was not simply about increasing capacity. It marked a new stage in Mould Tech’s growth. We have moved beyond the point where size was a limitation and entered a level of international supply capability where large-scale, complex solutions are the standard.
The development was implemented from EU funding in the project GINOP-1.2.1-16-2017-00997 under the Economic Development and Innovation Operational Programme Plus.
