An important utility development has been completed in Mórahalom. Thanks to the project, the town’s wastewater drainage system now operates more safely and efficiently. The main goal of the investment was to modernise the existing sewer network, especially by reducing the infiltration of extraneous water and preventing future operational problems.
The development was financed by the municipality through European Union funding. It covered almost 2,500 metres of wastewater collection network across six streets. As part of the project, sewer sections were upgraded, while faulty or high-risk connections, junctions and damaged network elements were rebuilt.
During the preparation phase, the municipality worked together with Alföldvíz Regional Water Utility Service Provider Ltd. to assess the condition of the town’s wastewater network. Based on this survey, they identified the points where immediate intervention was needed.
The project is not only a technical improvement, but also brings real benefits to local residents. A more reliable sewer network means fewer operational problems and blockages, lower environmental impact, and safer utility services. It also contributes to a cleaner and healthier living environment.
The upgraded system is now more resistant to failures and better able to handle the extra load caused by rainy periods. The improvements have also eliminated the infiltration of extraneous water — such as groundwater and rainwater — into the network. As a result, the load arriving at the town’s wastewater treatment plant from the affected streets has been reduced to a manageable level.
The development was implemented from EU funding in the project KEHOP-2.1.11-21-2021-00004 under the Environmental and Energy Efficiency Operational Programme.
