For the second time this year, our website provides an overview of European Union co-funded projects that significantly contribute to achieving regional and local development goals within the framework of the Territorial and Settlement Development Operational Programme Plus (TSDOP Plus) pillars.
Sustainable Urban Development Pillar – latest updates:
One of Salgótarján’s most important community and sports facilities, the City Sports Hall, has reached a major milestone with the completion of a comprehensive energy modernization project worth approximately HUF 500 million. The investment ensures more sustainable operation and will bring significant long-term economic benefits for the city. The roof, the entire façade, and the building’s base were insulated, outdated doors and windows were replaced, and the heating system and heat center were modernized. The central ventilation and air-handling system was also renewed, providing more efficient heating in winter and cooling during the summer months. To further enhance sustainability, a solar panel system was installed, increasing the share of renewable energy and reducing the building’s dependence on external energy sources. Since the grant could be used exclusively for energy-efficiency improvements, the municipality financed additional works worth around HUF 18 million from its own resources. The renovated sports hall has become a modern and defining venue for the city’s sporting life, while the more comfortable and welcoming environment now serves as a true community meeting point.
In Mór, nearly HUF 320 million is being invested in the partial renovation of one wing of Lamberg Castle. Alongside the restoration of the historic monument, the project includes façade and roof renovation, modernization of utilities, accessibility improvements, and interior restoration. As part of the development, a permanent exhibition presenting the nearby Natura 2000 protected area will also be created.
In Komló, more than HUF 650 million is being invested to renew Eszperantó Square and the surrounding area of the municipal office. The project focuses on improving the quality of urban public spaces, developing green areas, and ensuring accessible transport conditions, thereby contributing to a more livable and sustainable urban environment.
In Békéscsaba and its surrounding region, a HUF 2 billion comprehensive program supports community and social development. The initiative includes community-building, health-promotion, prevention, mental health, sports, and labor market programs. Based on local needs, these activities aim to strengthen social cohesion and encourage active community participation.
Energy modernisation of municipal public buildings Pillar:
Tangible results have also been achieved in this area. In Dejtár, two key municipal buildings were renovated with modern, energy-efficient technical solutions—such as advanced heating and cooling systems—through an investment of nearly HUF 290 million. In Szakcs, the Elderly Care Home was modernized with more than HUF 124 million in funding. Thermal insulation, window replacement, mechanical upgrades, and the installation of a solar panel system all contribute to the institution’s sustainable operation, reduced maintenance costs, and lower environmental impact.
Public Education Infrastructure Development Pillar – current updates:
In Mór, a HUF 221 million investment will establish a daytime care facility for people with disabilities. The accessible building will improve conditions for daytime employment and community services, potentially reducing demand for residential care. Meanwhile, in Hegyeshalom, the Lőrincze Lajos Primary School is being renovated with HUF 360 million in funding. The project will create a modern learning environment that supports pedagogical renewal and helps develop students’ 21st-century competencies.
