80,000 school bags ready for September

2025. 08. 29.

For tens of thousands of families, the start of the school year will be a little easier. Through the Human Resources Development Operational Program Plus, 80,000 children in need will receive free school supply kits at the beginning of the 2025/2026 school year. Coordinated by the Klebelsberg Center and funded with HUF 6.9 billion, the project ensures that students in grades 1–8 living in challenging circumstances won’t have to start the year without essential school supplies.

This initiative isn’t a one-off: between 2024 and 2030, a total of 430,200 school supply kits will be distributed nationwide to primary schools, with this year’s batch valued at HUF 520 million. This is the second time the government has supported students in need with school supplies through this EU co-financed program. The current project builds on a previous program under the Operational Programme for Supporting Socially Disadvantaged Persons, through which the Center has been distributing school supply kits to both public and private schools since 2019. This year, more than 2,300 schools are involved.

It’s no surprise that the kits are tailored to each grade: experts carefully select the contents to meet students’ needs. First graders receive a more comprehensive set, while seventh graders even get scientific calculators. This way, every student can start the school year fully equipped.

These free kits provide more than just notebooks, pencil cases, rulers, and compasses—they provide opportunity. They give every child the chance to begin the school year on equal footing, no matter where they come from.

As a key pillar of Human Resources Development Operational Program Plus, the project plays a crucial role in supporting children in need and achieving the program’s broader goals.
