We rarely stop to think about what happens to the water that disappears down the drain. Yet behind the scenes, essential systems are working continuously to protect the environment and maintain a good quality of life in our towns and villages. In Nemesszalók, one such largely invisible but highly important piece of infrastructure was expanded with support from the European Union.
The development, worth nearly HUF 280 million, was designed to ensure that the village can continue to meet modern environmental standards while providing residents with safe and reliable public utility services.
As part of the project, the local wastewater treatment plant was upgraded, several parts of the related infrastructure were modernised, and the system’s capacity was increased. These improvements have made wastewater treatment in the village more efficient and environmentally friendly.
Modern wastewater treatment plays an important role in protecting the natural environment. By replacing individual wastewater tanks and soakaway systems, the project helps reduce the risk of soil and groundwater contamination and contributes to preserving the environmental quality of the surrounding area.
Another important outcome of the development is that the system is no longer overloaded, and additional properties can now be connected to the network. The project therefore benefits both current users and the wider community in the long term. It provides reliable basic infrastructure, improves living conditions and creates a stronger foundation for future development. A modern public utility network supports residents in their everyday lives while also making the village a more stable and attractive location for businesses and investment.
