A library for the community

2026. 05. 15.

In every town, there is a place that connects generations. A place where, as children, we first leaf through storybooks; later, we prepare for exams; and as adults, we take care of everyday matters, learn, or simply pause for a few quiet minutes. Yes, that place is the library — and in Mórahalom, it has now been given a fresh new look.

Visitors to the Mórahalom library have witnessed a major transformation thanks to an EU-funded development. The institution’s spaces have been completely redesigned. Today, it is no longer simply a quiet reading room for book lovers, but a vibrant community hub where meetings, experiences, and shared moments play just as important a role as knowledge.

A modern training room has opened, providing a venue for courses, workshops, lectures, and digital training sessions. The reception area and youth section have also been rearranged to make the library even more inviting for younger generations to drop in during the afternoon. A custom-designed lending desk, practical bookshelves, comfortable chairs and tables, and welcoming beanbags have made the spaces more approachable and people-centred. Everything is designed to make visitors feel at home from the moment they enter.

Behind the scenes, extensive technical work was also carried out. The electrical and IT networks were modernised, the gallery staircase was renovated, and the walls and interior surfaces were refurbished. Every part of the library now feels fresher, more orderly, and more modern. New laptops, computers, projectors, Wi-Fi signal boosters, and interactive displays make learning and accessing information easier than ever. The training room has also been enriched with special features: a digital turntable and headphones now support cultural engagement in new ways.

With its modern infrastructure, the library can offer not only up-to-date library services, but also a wider range of programmes. Cooperation with schools can become stronger, while new opportunities are opening up for families, jobseekers, and older generations alike.
