Catering in a modern environment in Sajószentpéter

2024. 11. 11.

In a settlement in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County, a successful EU development was implemented with the aim of providing modern public catering for preschool and elementary school children, as well as those in need.

The city’s local government established the Catering Nonprofit Ltd. in Sajószentpéter in 2009 to provide more efficient, higher quality, and more standardised services for the city’s public catering, primarily serving the Kossuth Lajos Primary School and its two member institutions (Hunyadi Mátyás Branch School, Móra Ferenc Branch School) in Sajószentpéter. On a daily basis, 1,045 meals are served for an approximately 580 elementary school students, 260 pre-school kids, 25 nursery-aged children, and 180 indigent adults.

The development has revitalised the former Kristály (Cristal) restaurant, which was built between 1985-86, and for more than 25 years, no maintenance work was carried out on the building. However, in the summer of 2013, as part of the II. programme element of the Start Public Work Program, the building’s walls received external insulation and painting. However, following receiving the grant  from the Territorial and Settlement Development Operational Programme, the most significant building modernisation and basic infrastructure development works could be realised.

The modernisation of the electrical network, as well as the drinking water, sewage systems, and the heating system has been completed. A proper ventilation system was installed, and the building was also made accessible. In the kitchen section, technology developments have taken place for the creation of a healthy, modern place where a diet kitchen and a cold storage room has also been established.

Thanks to the investment, a completely renewed, modern restaurant awaits diners, and as a result of the developments implemented in the building, energy consumption has also decreased, ensuring much more cost-effective operation.
