Developments up close: NFK presented itself at EFOTT festival

2025. 07. 24.

The National Development Centre (NFK) represented itself at the EFOTT festival between 9 and 13 July 2025, which is one of the largest national events addressing young people studying in higher education.

The festival provided an excellent opportunity to bring the younger generation closer to the significance of Hungarian development policy and the social impacts of projects supported by the European Union in a comprehensible way.

At the NFK stands, visitors could learn about the results of recent years and the development opportunities offered by the current programming period through interactive programs. Special attention was paid to the presentation of the Széchenyi Terv Plusz and the Együtt fejlődünk (Developing Together), which provide the content and visual framework for the objectives of domestic development policy.

One of the innovative communication tools of the NFK was the wheel of fortune presenting the five strategic objectives, accompanied by QR code-based quizzes. The questions focused on developments implemented with EU funding, from the use of renewable energy sources to the development of transport infrastructure to school renovations and the Presence program of the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service.

The TávSzem project, presented jointly with the National Association of the Blind and Visually Impaired, attracted enormous interest and was implemented within the framework of the Human Resources Development Operational Programme. The service, which supports the everyday lives of visually impaired people, provides real-time, human-assisted assistance 24 hours a day using a smartphone application. Those interested were able to get to know the application by presenting real-life situations. The stand’s programs created an opportunity to experience the situation of the visually impaired: simulation glasses, Braille writing, and speaking and tactile aids also contributed to sensitization.

Within the framework of the project aimed at developing public education textbooks and digital teaching materials, also implemented from EFOP, the participants could test their knowledge on the online game Are you smarter than a fifth grader? available on the National Public Education Portal of the Office of Education (OH), which OH developed for the festival at the request of the NFK, generating random questions from the curriculum of the 5th grade of primary school. The Portal now offers more than a hundred digital textbooks, tens of thousands of interactive tasks and visual learning support content for students.

The presence at EFOTT created a dialogue and formed a bridge between policy objectives and the everyday lives of young people. Despite the fact that the event was initially accompanied by changeable weather, interest in the NFK stands was unwavering, and experts working in development policy were committed to demonstrating that EU developments are backed by tangible, socially beneficial results.
