With the support of the European Union, a comprehensive assistance program helped to boost employment and the economy in Nyíregyháza. The development focused not only on supporting employees and local businesses but also on encouraging investments.
The Nyíregyháza Employment Pact was a large-scale EU project jointly implemented by the Municipality of Nyíregyháza and the Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County Government Office. Its focus was on job creation and the development of the local economy. Through employment programs, many job seekers received assistance finding work through labor market counseling and training. Three thousand two hundred twenty-six job seekers were involved, of whom 2325 received job opportunities, while 899 participated in individual job search counseling. Employment agreements have been made to encourage cooperation between the local government and businesses, thereby ensuring the alignment of labor market demand and supply.
One of the essential parts of the pact was supporting Nyíregyháza businesses and promoting their products. For this purpose, a strategic and marketing plan has been developed for promoting local products, the “Made in Nyíregyháza” trademark and logo were created, and an online database was established to collect local producers. Numerous events provided opportunities for showcasing, such as the City Day, the Tirpák Festival, and the FarmerExpo exhibition. Activities related to product and service development included the preparation of a detailed brand manual, which guided businesses in brand building. Numerous professional forums, workshops, and awareness-raising actions were organized, encouraging cooperation among local economic actors and providing opportunities for experience exchange.
As part of the project, an investment promotion strategy and several publications were prepared, investor conferences and entrepreneurial forums were held, and experts assisted the local government in economic development. The activities related to investment promotion were closely linked to the development of local products and services, as showcasing the local economic potential is essential for attracting investors. The program also included various promotional events, during which Nyíregyháza businesses could present themselves at domestic and international trade fairs.
Overall, the Nyíregyháza Employment Pact has represented a significant advancement in the city’s life. Through the project, many people found employment, and local businesses gained new opportunities, which will have a long-term positive impact on the development of Nyíregyháza.
The development was implemented from EU funding in the project TOP-1.1.1-16-GM1-2019-00008 under the Territorial and Settlement Development Operational Programme.
