When it comes to a medical examination or specialist appointment, the distance patients have to travel can make a real difference. For many years, residents of the Kisbér District faced the fact that a number of healthcare services were only available at institutions farther from home. The development of Batthyány Kázmér Specialist Hospital in Kisbér changed this by creating more modern and comprehensive outpatient specialist care, improved diagnostic services and a renewed healthcare environment for the region.
Thanks to European Union funding, surgical specialist care and laboratory diagnostics were significantly improved. Working closely with primary care providers, the modernised laboratory now supports more efficient diagnostic testing. The hospital also received up-to-date medical equipment, making it possible to carry out a wider range of examinations and procedures locally on an outpatient basis, reducing the need for patients to travel to more distant hospitals.
This is particularly important because there is no institution in the area providing active inpatient or emergency care. The nearest facilities offering these services are around fifty kilometres away, which means that every service made available locally fills an important gap in healthcare provision. The development has also strengthened prevention, with modern equipment supporting public health screening programmes, including colorectal cancer screening.
The project also included the renovation of the hospital building itself. Modernising the nearly two-hundred-year-old facility created a safer and more comfortable environment for both patients and healthcare professionals. Particular attention was paid to eliminating problems caused by damp in the building, an essential step not only for preserving the condition of the property, but also for ensuring patient safety and a healthy working environment.
The investment has helped Batthyány Kázmér Specialist Hospital provide modern, efficient outpatient specialist care close to home over the long term, while also reducing pressure on more distant inpatient facilities. For residents of the region, this means safer and higher-quality healthcare: patients can access examinations and treatments more quickly, while facing less travel, lower costs and shorter waiting times. Every day, the development makes life easier for thousands of people living in the Kisbér District.
