Kiskunfélegyháza renewed – a greener, more livable, and vibrant city center

2025. 06. 13.

In recent times, Kiskunfélegyháza’s city center has undergone remarkable and tangible changes. As a result of a comprehensive development project—particularly focused on Béke Square and its surroundings—the central part of the city has not only become more attractive, but now also better serves the needs of residents and visitors alike.

The project, implemented with support from the European Union, focused on reimagining open spaces and increasing green areas. The aim was to preserve the city’s historical character while modernizing the spatial structure to meet today’s community expectations. The renewed Béke Square is not only visually appealing but has also strengthened its community functions—serving as a popular meeting place for families, young people, and the elderly alike.

The market has also been modernized—not just in appearance but in function as well. Local producers can now offer their goods in a more up-to-date environment, which is a major improvement for both them and regular shoppers. The familiar bustle of the market remains, but now in a more organized setting.

City leadership placed great emphasis on ensuring that the developments were not only impressive but also sustainable. Upgrades to the stormwater drainage system, eco-friendly street lighting, and new bicycle racks all contribute to a more environmentally conscious and livable urban lifestyle.

The traffic system was also reevaluated: revising the parking regulations has improved safety for both cyclists and drivers, making the city center more accessible and welcoming.

This investment, realized with the support of the European Union, has opened a new chapter in Kiskunfélegyháza’s story. The revitalized city center preserves the values of the past while looking toward the future, serving the needs of both locals and visitors—a greener, more livable city is in everyone’s shared interest.
