Thanks to the HUF 10 billion EU funding, travel on the Sopron – Szombathely – Szentgotthárd railway line has become safer: GYSEV Zrt. successfully completed the construction of the ETCS L2 train control equipment.
On the 110-kilometer section, the train control system continuously monitors and, if necessary, regulates the speed of moving trains, and completely limits train-overtaking accident situations. The system not only increases the safety of rail transport, but also brings many additional benefits.
Good transport infrastructure promotes the development of rural areas, especially disadvantaged areas, as well as the spatial equalization of economic development. The overall goal of rail transport developments is to encourage the use of environmentally friendly modes of transport, which greatly contribute to environmental sustainability.
In rural areas, efficient, fast and safe rail transport creates an opportunity for people to get to their work places, educational institutions and other services more easily. This will help boost economic activity, labor mobility and reduce regional disparities.
The program was implemented with European Union funding under the ITOP-2.1.0-15-2016-00017 project.
