Rural hospitals and schools can improve energy efficiency

2025. 03. 07.

A total of HUF 5.1 billion in funding has been allocated through the Digital Renewal Operational Programme Plus, with grant applications opening on February 25, 2025. The funding will support energy assessments and regular data collection for buildings in rural healthcare and educational institutions.

The 2021-2027 programming period includes operations of strategic importance (OSI)—commonly referred to as Pillars—which aim to enhance the visibility of EU funding and showcase the achieved results to the public. One of the key priorities of the Digital Renewal Operational Programme Plus is High-Tech and Green Transition, under which two Pillar calls have been issued: one for healthcare institutions and another for educational institutions, focusing on the implementation of IT solutions that promote energy-efficient resource management in public service facilities.

Through the projects, smart devices and the energy management solutions built upon them will help reduce energy consumption in public institutions. The resulting lower utility costs will free up resources that hospitals, outpatient clinics, and schools can reinvest in improving their core services. With the non-refundable funding, institutions will install meters, sensors, and data transmission devices, as well as implement local energy management functions in rural locations selected with policy approval. Once the necessary data connections are established, participating buildings will be integrated into the National Public Institution Energy Management Platform. As part of the projects, institutions must also develop and distribute educational materials to raise awareness of energy management practices. Institutional maintainers—such as the Klebelsberg Center, the National Office of Vocational Education and Training and Adult Learning, and the National Directorate General For Hospitals —can apply for funding starting February 25, 2025, in consortiums led by FEAK Independent Energy Data Center Zrt. The non-refundable grant allows for a 100% advance payment, with a project completion deadline set for the end of 2027.

Within the Digital Renewal Operational Programme Plus, eleven funding schemes will support innovative digital solutions to facilitate the green transition, improve energy efficiency, and enhance energy security.
