Worth a smile

Mosolyka Guesthouse in Zákány has expanded its services with a new wellness area and a range of new guest activities. The accommodation now offers guests an even richer range of ways to relax, while also creating new job opportunities for local residents.

Zákány, a village in Somogy County, is becoming an increasingly attractive tourist destination. This progress has been supported by an EU-funded project implemented at Mosolyka Guesthouse, operated by the Zákány Tourism, Service and Start Social Cooperative. As part of the development, new services and community programmes were introduced.

One of the key improvements was the creation of a wellness area. The basement of the building now includes an infrared sauna, a hot tub and a new shower. Although the guesthouse can now offer a more complete range of services, it has retained its warm, family-like atmosphere. Guests can also enjoy a wider programme offer, including organised tours that encourage longer stays and more active forms of relaxation.

The guesthouse’s online presence has also been strengthened. Its website now includes new features, such as the option to book experience programmes, and the accommodation has also appeared on several tourism and booking platforms.

Thanks to the project, the guesthouse now employs three new full-time staff members: a childcare assistant/trainer/receptionist, a maintenance worker/tour guide and a housekeeper. The cooperative placed particular emphasis on involving local residents with lower levels of education.

The project also reflects a strong sense of social responsibility. Open days were organised where residents of Zákány could try the new wellness services free of charge and learn more about the cooperative’s work. The aim was to help local people feel that the initiative belongs to them, while supporting both the community and the tourism development of the area.

Over the years, Mosolyka Guesthouse has become one of the key tourist sites in the region.
