Support packages providing essential help to reach hundreds of thousands of people in need

2026. 06. 23.

A nationwide programme has been launched to support socially disadvantaged people, expectant mothers, and families with children in beneficiary districts. The Directorate-General for Social Affairs and Child Protection is implementing the project with nearly HUF 10 billion in non-repayable European Union funding. The aim is to ease everyday difficulties related to basic living needs.

The project, worth HUF 9.963 billion, provides regular support to groups at risk of poverty and social exclusion. It focuses on the most disadvantaged members of society, including people with reduced capacity to work, older people, expectant mothers, and families raising children.

Operations of Strategic Importance

The initiative is being implemented under the Human Resources Development Operational Programme Plus and has been given a key role as a Pillar project in the European Union’s 2021–2027 development cycle. Operations of strategic importance are intended to make a significant contribution to the operational programmes’ goals of social inclusion and equal opportunities.

Non-Perishable Food and Hygiene Products for Everyday Needs

Thanks to the project, 325,000 non-perishable food packages and 30,000 packages containing hygiene and childcare products are planned to be delivered to people in need. The aim of the programme is to provide direct assistance to families and individuals who face difficulties in meeting their basic everyday needs.

Distribution of the packages began at the end of May 2026 at approximately 1,000 locations across the country.
