Hajdúböszörmény is inviting local residents to get active together with the opening of a new streetball court in Bocskai István Square.
The development responds to a long-standing local need. During the previous renovation of the main square, the former streetball court—a popular meeting place for young people—was removed. Although the square itself was renewed, the community still lacked a space where sport and outdoor recreation could become part of everyday life.
The new development fills this gap. With the support of European Union funding, a modern, 90-square-metre streetball court was built, featuring a high-quality sports surface, a basketball hoop with a chain net and protective ball-stop netting. Benches provide a comfortable place to rest between games. A surveillance camera helps keep the area safe, while free Wi-Fi allows players to share photos and videos of their best shots instantly.
The project is closely aligned with Hajdúböszörmény’s long-term goals. The city aims to remain an attractive place to live for younger generations, strengthen local communities and create spaces that bring together sport, recreation and social life.
The new streetball court in Bocskai István Square shows how even a relatively small-scale development can make a meaningful difference to everyday community life. Exercise, social interaction and shared experiences now come together naturally in one of Hajdúböszörmény’s most important public spaces.

The development was implemented from EU funding in the project TOP-7.1.1-16-H-ERFA-2019-00099 under the Territorial and Settlement Development Operational Programme.
