Greener healthcare in Sopron

A small-scale solar power plant has been installed at the Sopron Medical Centre’s Győri Road site to make its operations more cost-effective. But what does this mean in practice?

Healthcare facilities consume a significant amount of energy. Medical equipment, lighting, IT systems and support services all require a stable power supply, and their combined energy use is substantial. This makes investments that improve efficiency and predictability particularly valuable.

As part of the EU-funded project, nearly 1,600 solar panels were installed on the roofs of the hospital buildings. Each building feeds the electricity generated from solar energy into the facility’s internal power network through its own distribution unit. The energy produced is used directly to support the day-to-day operation of the institution.

The development is expected to reduce annual energy consumption by around 8.5 per cent. This represents a meaningful improvement, as lower operating costs can help ensure more stable and sustainable services in the long term.

The solar system is also an important step from an environmental perspective. Using renewable energy reduces reliance on conventional energy sources and enables the Sopron Medical Centre to carry out its work with a more modern and environmentally conscious energy system.
