When it comes to environmental issues, it is extremely important to receive the right information, to continuously expand our knowledge, and to implement measures that can protect our environment and combat the harmful effects of climate change. The Transdanubian Regional Waterworks Ltd., (Dunántúli Regionális Vízmű Zrt.) has done a lot for this in its project titled Water source protection and responsible water managment in the era of climate change.
The development that was implemented with EU and domestic funding specifically aimed to draw citizens’ attention through a personal approach to the importance of protecting and properly using our waters, as well as the negative effects of climate change. Within the framework of the Environmental and Energy Efficiency Operational Program, the project helped to understand the impact of the complex system of water management on living organisms, including humans. Familiarising those interested with the most important water management elements — such as utilities, piped drinking water, and sewage networks — they outlined the advantages of using these systems and demonstrated the alternative solutions that most support sustainability.
In order to spark the interest of different generations and foster environmentally conscious thinking, alongside numerous awareness-raising publications, lectures, and competitions, the Water House Experience Park was established in Siófok, where people can learn about drinking and wastewater services, their operation, and about responsible water and sewage management in a playful, interactive manner.
The experience park features a show room, a water playground, and an educational trail, providing an excellent opportunity for knowledge transfer to be combined with experiential learning. In the show room, awareness-raising installations and educational materials aid learning. The water playground has many different games, making it suitable for organizing team-building activities as well.
The 5 km long Töreki educational trail, where four new stations have also been established, is an excellent terrain for study trips. In the amusement park, we can walk along the Water Pathway, and can experience things such as how to control a fountain with a bicycle or how to build a water pipeline. The complex welcomes visitors from spring to autumn.
The project provided an excellent opportunity to present important water protection and water management processes in practice and in an experiential manner, thereby promoting sustainability and raising awareness on climate change, as well as the emergence of a much more predictable and environmentally conscious vision for the future.
