State and municipal electronic information systems and registries previously operated in a fragmented manner on various quality infrastructures. In the fragmented system, the introduction of security and protective measures was also cumbersome. Thanks to the developments implemented with European Union support, these systems have been modernised, allowing them to perform their tasks more effectively and cost-efficiently.
The project, implemented with EU support under the Public Administration and Public Service Development Operational Programme (KÖFOP), aimed to further the consolidation of state information systems, replace outdated machine rooms and data centers, and optimise new government IT investments related to this. By creating a cloud-based operational environment to support government work, an operational environment has been established that ensures high availability of government IT systems, with an infrastructure capable of adapting to emerging needs and the latest technological requirements.
Among the developments, it is noteworthy to increase the data and operational security of critical government infocommunication infrastructure, to extend standardised service-oriented development and connectivity solutions between electronic administrative processes, and to establish interoperability. The established Government Data Center Cloud provides modern IT infrastructure services to enhance the integrability and efficiency of emerging e-government systems, shorten the creation time of new systems, and reduce operational costs. The foundational infrastructure thus established replaces often outdated servers, providing virtualization. The Cloud provides a modern infrastructure, among other things, for identity card, address, and passport registries that fall under the national data assets, as well as for systems used in government offices.
With the establishment of the Government Data Center Cloud, the previously isolated IT systems of government institutions have been centralised in a unified location. In the high-security data center with a storage capacity of 36,400,000 GB, approximately 3,481 servers are currently operating on 2,000 square meters, running well-known systems such as the Electronic Health Service Space (EESZT), the magyarorszag.hu portal, the Municipal ASP, and the NISZ national video conferencing system. The development was implemented from EU funding in the project KÖFOP-1.0.0-VEKOP-15-2015-00005 under the Public Administration and Public Service Development Operational Programme.
