The main objective of the EU-funded project was to improve access to public services for children and adults with disabilities. The services provided by the project covered the whole country and clearly contributed to improving the quality of life and social inclusion of people with disabilities.
The MONTAZS Project has placed particular emphasis on training professionals who provide assistance to people with disabilities. In total 57 training courses were set up fulfilling a need, providing training and free support to experts. This has enabled people with disabilities to receive much greater assistance tailored to their needs and situation. These training courses have enabled public service workers to better understand and assist people with disabilities. Service providers having a higher level of knowledge and sensitivity has made it easier for people with disabilities to access public services and they received better quality care. As a result of the project, Regional Autism Working Groups in 10 operational districts provided counselling services, adult speech therapy in 13 cities, and assessment and development of specific competences were ensured in the so called Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Methodology Centres. In addition, a network of disability counsellors was set up in cooperation with 22 family and child welfare centres in the county and the capital. The project has purchased 2 500 pieces of AAC equipment, such as voice machines, special mouse triggers and keyboards, smart devices, image communication software, which are currently available for loan in 6 locations.
Another important result of the programme was the building of the Single Disability Information Portal. This portal provides up-to-date and relevant information on teaching and education, healthcare, the world of work, social services, benefits and equal access. The information on the portal will also help people with disabilities, their families and professionals to gain information more easily, to learn about the opportunities and rights available to them, and is another important step towards creating equal opportunities and an inclusive society.
