EU-funded nursery supports families in Vecsés

2026. 06. 12.

A new nursery built in Vecsés with support from the Széchenyi 2020 programme has brought welcome relief to local families with young children, helping to meet the growing demand for childcare places in the area.

Located in the south-eastern part of the Budapest metropolitan area, Vecsés has seen significant population growth in recent decades. Its suburban, family-friendly environment has attracted many young families, while new residential developments have placed increasing pressure on local services. Nursery capacity had become a particular challenge, with waiting lists regularly exceeding fifty children.

The new EU-funded facility provides 56 nursery places in two care units, with four group rooms, a warming kitchen and a salt room. A nearly 100-square-metre covered terrace opens directly onto the garden, where children can play and rest outdoors in a 1,600-square-metre shaded playground during the warmer months.

The project also included the purchase of modern furniture, development tools and toys, creating a safe, welcoming and stimulating environment for children. Parking spaces and bicycle storage facilities were also added.

The building was designed with sustainability in mind. Its solar panel system and energy-efficient structures help reduce operating costs while supporting environmentally responsible day-to-day operation.

The new nursery marks an important step in making Vecsés a more family-friendly, liveable and sustainable town. It also helps parents, especially mothers, return to work and better balance family life with employment.

The development was implemented from EU funding in the project VEKOP-6.1.1-15-PT1-2016-00049 under the Competitive Central Hungary Operational Programme.
