Europe Day: where community experience and development policy come together

2026. 05. 14.

On 10 May, Budapest’s Freedom Square once again filled with visitors for Europe Day — an event that, year after year, offers not only shared community experiences but also an important opportunity to showcase the results of European cooperation. This year’s event once again featured a rich programme, including the traditional EU running race as well as cultural and interactive activities throughout the day.

As in previous years, the National Development Centre represented Hungary’s development policy with its own stand at the event, attracting strong interest from visitors throughout the day. The stand focused on presenting the objectives and achievements of the Széchenyi Plan Plus programme, alongside the Együttfejlődünk / We grow together brand.

Visitors showed particular interest in the online quiz on EU-funded developments, completed by more than a thousand people. This educational initiative, delivered in a playful format, drew attention to key areas of development policy, including green investments, sustainable transport, the creation of a more liveable Hungary, strengthening competitiveness and digitalisation, and supporting social progress.

The National Development Centre also paid special attention to younger audiences. Older children and families could take part in the popular language game “ “Can You Guess the Official Languages of the EU?”, while younger children had the chance to win a plush toy of the organisation’s mascot, Szöcske Szecső.

The all-day event provided an excellent opportunity for the public to gain a closer understanding of how European Union funds are used in Hungary. At the National Development Centre’s stand, this information reached more than two thousand people — in a direct, engaging and experience-based way.
