In Kecskemét, Kiskunfélegyháza, and Kalocsa, the number of healthcare workers has increased, thanks to the support of the Human Resources Development Operational Program. Due to a project implemented during the 2014-2020 programming period of the European Union, the Bács-Kiskun County Teaching Hospital of the University of Szeged’s Faculty of Medicine now employs significantly more doctors and healthcare professionals. In addition to human resource expansion, significant infrastructural investments have been made in the institution, leading to a substantial improvement in the quality of services.
The Bács-Kiskun County Teaching Hospital, affiliated with the University of Szeged’s Faculty of Medicine, addressed the significant workforce shortage caused by increased patient flow with European Union funding allocated for human resource development. Through a successful application, in addition to hiring new staff, they established a stoma therapy mobile team.
As a result of these developments, the medical and professional staff numbers increased in the intensive therapy, internal medicine, surgical, oncology, and pathology departments at the hospital’s Kecskemét location. In Kalocsa, a new team member was introduced to emergency care, and in Kiskunfélegyháza, as part of the project initiated in 2017 and concluded in 2019, they hired a nurse, a registered nurse, and a surgical assistant for the day surgery department.
A significant goal of the development was to enhance patient satisfaction. The project contributed to strengthening professional collaboration between primary care, out-patient specialised care, and active and rehabilitation in-patient care. The expansion of capacity led to a workload mitigation for staff in the relevant departments, resulting in an improvement in the quality of patient care.
