Within the framework of the EU project “Improving local care, services and quality of life in the Ormánság region”, 6,500 square metres of green space have been developed in Sellye, Baranya County. The project, implemented under the Territorial and Settlement Development Operational Programme, increased green spaces in Sellye, improved transport links and created new sport infrastructure for the population.
Key objective was to create an attractive yet sustainable image for businesses, investors and residents. The improvements have led to a more attractive and greener environment in the downtown while community and sports facilities were improved as well. The grant has helped to open up the section between Ifjúság Street and Batthyány Street for cyclists and pedestrians. A part of the under-utilised economic area, which had been wedged into the town centre, was cleared and a community area and green spaces were created. A new leisure facility was built on this site, including a gym and a multifunctional hall.
Thanks to the project, an attractive and usable environment was created in the town centre, which significantly increasing the population retention of the settlement.
