New opportunities for outdoor activities and community building have emerged in Mór

2024. 04. 19.

The Sándor Wekerle Leisure Center in Mór has expanded its facilities with the construction of a BMX and roller skating track, thanks to EU funding. The increase in outdoor activities aims to encourage local youth to get out more often, leading to a more active and healthier lifestyle.

The leisure center has already served as a venue for numerous sports events and cultural activities. The sports hall features an authorized handball court for sports enthusiasts, while a convertible stage allows for various events such as balls, proms, conferences, concerts, and theatrical performances. The Vörösmarty Theater from Székesfehérvár is a regular performer here. Groups of friends can choose from a variety of sports options, including outdoor handball, basketball, volleyball, or badminton, along with a running track. In addition to the existing facilities, a BMX and roller skating track has been built with EU support, designed to meet environmental and sustainability requirements, providing young people with the opportunity to enjoy their favorite leisure activities.

The tracks have been designed to cater to both professional athletes and sports-loving people, serving not only for leisure practice but also for hosting smaller competitions and sports events. Since its inauguration, several events have already taken place. A rehabilitation engineer was involved in the planning of the BMX and roller skating tracks to ensure compliance with accessibility requirements.

Moreover, the leisure center offers additional recreational opportunities, serving as a community space that can contribute to the retention of young people in the city. This aligns with the goals outlined in the Mór City Municipality’s Integrated Urban Development Strategy, Local Community Development Strategy, Integrated Strategies of the city, and the Mór City Local Equal Opportunities Program. Thanks to the investment, there are now more areas available for organizing leisure activities, primarily benefiting the city’s young residents, but indirectly having a positive impact on the entire population.
