The support for the local economy and employment, the development of tourism, and the modernization of urban infrastructure and public services will be realized with nearly HUF 9 billion in funding from the Territorial and Settlement Development Operational Programme Plus. Based on this, the Eger local government has developed a comprehensive development package that includes investments aimed at significantly improving the quality of life across the city.
One of the objectives of the Pillars under the 2021-2027 programming period, also known as Operations of Strategic Importance (OSI), is to increase the visibility of EU funding and widely showcase the results achieved to the public. One of the Pillars of the Territorial and Settlement Development Operational Programme Plus is Sustainable Urban Development. Through this measure, integrated development plans for Budapest and 42 other cities will be implemented in the coming years.
In Eger, a development plan worth over HUF 6 billion has been prepared for the calls that have been published so far, and the city will start projects using an additional HUF 2.5 billion, in accordance with the relevant calls. Plans include road improvements in the city center to enhance traffic safety, and the development of the Archbishop’s Garden. Parallel to the reorganization of the city’s kindergarten network, technical infrastructure developments will also be carried out. A key element of the Pillar is human development, with the program providing community-building events, training, and targeted support for all age groups.
The development package also includes a nearly HUF 2 billion complex renovation of the Thermal and Spa Bath. This investment will not only ensure sustainable operation but also enhance the quality of services. In addition to these, a well-maintained hiking trail will be created leading to Eged Mountain through a Natura 2000 area. Resting places will be set up along the trail, and information boards will be used to present the flora and fauna of the surrounding area.
