The Southern Danube Bend awaits discovery

2026. 04. 20.

There is a place in Hungary where the Danube winds just as beautifully and the scenery is just as breathtaking—yet it remains far less known than the famous Danube Bend. This is the Southern Danube Bend, including Dunaföldvár, Bölcske, Madocsa, and Dunakömlőd. Thanks to recent developments, the region has become an exciting new destination on Hungary’s tourism map.

With the support of the European Union, the area has been thoughtfully developed to offer a wide range of experiences. Visitors can enjoy active recreation, family-friendly activities, and cultural discoveries—all in one place.

Dunaföldvár is the gateway to the region. Along the Danube, a newly built cycling rest area offers a comfortable place to stop and relax, with covered seating, modern facilities, and Wi-Fi access. Families are well catered for too: next to the playground, a traffic education park  allows children to learn road safety in a fun and interactive way.

Just a few kilometers away, Bölcske offers one of the region’s most unique attractions. Set within a park of ancient trees, the beautifully renovated Szent András Castle invites visitors to step back in time. Now operating as accommodation, it also features a Celtic memorial site in its garden and the Heart of Jesus Chapel, known for its special acoustics. A Wine and Ham Museum has also been created here as part of the development.

Madocsa is perfect for those seeking peace and nature. Riverside rest areas, walking trails, and community spaces provide ideal settings for relaxation. Whether it’s a quiet walk, a family picnic, or outdoor cooking, everything is in place for enjoyable shared moments. A modern playground and accessible public spaces ensure a welcoming experience for all ages.

Further south, Dunakömlőd highlights the region’s rich history. The area around the Roman-era Lussonium military camp has been developed into an engaging visitor site. Guests can stroll through a herb garden, while children can discover history through play in a Roman-themed playground.

Thanks to these developments, the Southern Danube Bend has become a carefully designed tourist destination, where nature, culture, and active recreation come together to offer a wide range of experiences—while still preserving its peaceful, yet-to-be-discovered atmosphere that makes it truly unique.
