Almost every town has areas that gradually lose their former economic, tourism or community role over time. Mór was no exception. Today, however, one of the town’s previously underused areas has been transformed into a modern, sustainable urban space for both local residents and visitors.
For many people, Mór is associated with its wine region and historic attractions. But the first impression of a town is often shaped by its overall atmosphere and how well-kept its public spaces are. This EU-funded project focused on an area around the existing market and nearby brownfield sites, which offered a good opportunity for renewal. The aim was to create a more attractive and unified townscape, while also expanding the services available in the town centre.
As a result of the development, new retail and office spaces have opened, creating more opportunities for local businesses. They can also help make Mór more appealing to new investors, service providers and young entrepreneurs. Public spaces have been renewed as well, with comfortable pedestrian routes, green areas and modern street furniture making the area more welcoming.
Energy-efficient street lighting and accessibility improvements have made this part of town safer, more attractive and easier to use. A tidy, appealing town centre is also important for tourism. It can encourage visitors to spend more time in Mór, visit local shops, cafés and restaurants, and support the local economy more widely.
In Mór, a formerly underused area has become a lively urban space that serves residents, supports businesses and makes the town more attractive to visitors.
The development was implemented from EU funding in the project TOP-2.1.1-15-FE1-2016-00004 under the Territorial and Settlement Development Operational Programme.
