Helvécia Invests in the Future of Students: The School is Expanding, a New Gymnasium is Being Built

The municipality of Helvécia has received HUF 566 million support under the Territorial and Settlement Development Operational Program Plus (TSDOP Plus), which will be used for the development of the Wéber Ede Primary School. The goal of the project is to expand classroom capacity and build a new gymnasium.

Operations of strategic importance, also kmown as “Pillars,” significantly contribute to the achievement of the program’s objectives. One of the key areas of the TSDOP Plus programme is the development of public education infrastructure, which includes the current investment in Helvécia.

Currently, the school has seven classrooms and one specialized room, and the expansion will create four new, modern classrooms. Students in grades 5 to 8 will use the classrooms on the upper floor, while students in grades 1 to 4 will be accommodated on the ground floor. A key aspect of the design was to maximize the amount of natural light entering the building and to ensure that the classrooms are furnished with comfortable, ergonomic furniture that provides an optimal learning environment.

The school currently lacks an adequately sized gymnasium, so a new facility will be built to expand sports opportunities. This new facility will not only serve physical education classes but also be suitable for various sporting events. The development will also include accessible restrooms and changing rooms in addition to the boys’ and girls’ changing rooms.

Recently, another forward-looking project—the energy renovation of the Feketeerdői Primary School’s sports hall—has also started in the municipality, co-financed by the European Union. All of this demonstrates that the local government is proactively utilizing available EU funding to improve the quality of education and the facilities as a result of these developments.
