Improved learning spaces in teacher training schools

2026. 06. 05.

Renovated surroundings, modern equipment and more functional school spaces are supporting learning in several teacher training schools. A joint development by Széchenyi István University and Eötvös Loránd University focused on institutions that play an important role not only in public education, but also in teacher training.

Teacher training schools serve a dual purpose: they support pupils’ development while also helping future teachers prepare for their profession. The aim of the project was to improve the everyday conditions of education and to provide pupils, teachers and trainee teachers with a more modern, comfortable and better-equipped environment in which to learn and work.

The development involved the Öveges Kálmán Teacher Training Primary School in Győr, as well as several ELTE teacher training institutions in Budapest. In Győr, the school underwent extensive modernisation: windows and doors were partially replaced, building engineering systems were upgraded, radiators were replaced, the attic floor was insulated, and a solar panel system was installed. Cooling and heating systems were also developed. Shading and new flooring were added in several rooms, the gym and changing rooms were modernised, and courtyard renovation and accessibility improvements also helped make the building easier to use.

Major technical upgrades were also carried out in the ELTE institutions involved. At the Trefort Ágoston Teacher Training Secondary School, the electrical network, lighting and IT network were renewed. At the Gyertyánffy István Teacher Training Primary School, the entrance hall, washrooms, event hall and IT classrooms were reconstructed, and a security camera system was installed. At the Bárczi Gusztáv Teacher Training Primary School, community spaces were modernised, accessible areas were expanded, and the school’s equipment stock was enlarged.

The investment also included improvements to educational equipment. The institutions received classroom furniture, gym equipment, interactive whiteboards, computers and other IT tools. These developments directly support everyday lessons and help promote modern, active education that also makes use of digital technologies.
