Being admitted to hospital is always difficult, whether we need treatment ourselves or a loved one does. Everyone hopes to recover quickly and return home as soon as possible. During a hospital stay, patients expect care to be safe, efficient and well organised.
Healthcare professionals do much more than diagnose and treat patients. Their work also involves many administrative and technical tasks that patients rarely see. These duties can take valuable time and attention away from direct patient care.
With support from the European Union, Saint Luke’s Hospital in Dombóvár carried out a project to simplify these background processes, improve patient safety and create better conditions for high-quality healthcare. The improvements covered the main hospital building in Dombóvár, as well as the facilities in Pincehely and Gunaras.
One of the project’s main achievements was the introduction of a modern patient identification system. Patients now receive barcode wristbands that can be checked with digital scanners. This makes identification faster and more accurate and reduces the risk of human error. As a result, healthcare professionals can spend more time caring for patients directly.
The project also brought major improvements in hospital hygiene. Preventing infections is one of the most important tasks in healthcare, so the hospital environment was upgraded in several areas. The ventilation system in the central operating theatres was modernised, and new hand hygiene stations were installed throughout the hospital. These measures help reduce the risk of infection, protect patients and provide a safer working environment for hospital staff.
The new systems and equipment support safer care, make everyday work easier for healthcare professionals and help the hospital operate more efficiently. The project shows how investments in technology and infrastructure can directly improve the quality of healthcare.
Faster patient identification, more accurate data management, modern operating theatre conditions and improved hygiene all contribute to safer and more effective treatment. Patients and their families can also feel more confident knowing that they are receiving care in a hospital where patient safety is a clear priority.
